Getting to Harbour Island

Harbour Island is served by the airport at North Eleuthera Bahamas (Airport Code: ELH) which is two miles away by water. You can fly directly to North Eleuthra from Miami or Fort Lauderdale. Additionally there are frequent air commuter and charter services from Nassau and a "fast ferry" which departs daily. Many major US and international airlines fly into Nassau.

Continental Airlines operates a regional service through Gulfstream Airlines (a 22 passenger Beech 1900 aircraft). Depending on the time of year and the day of the week, there is usually direct service from Miami and Ft. Lauderdale www.continental.com, 800.231.0856.

US Airways operates direct round trip service daily from Miami daily every afternoon on a 38 passenger Dash 8. www.usair.com, 800.428.4322.

Commuter Airlines include Twin Air from Ft. Lauderdale (954.359.8266) which is the most frequently used, Air Sunshine- 954.434.8900, and Trans Caribbean - 888.239.2929.

Southern Air currently operates flights at 7:00 a.m, 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., 242-377-2014.

Ferry from Nassau to Harbour Island

Tips for traveling from New York City
Delta (www.delta.com) usually offers early morning departures from LaGuardia to Nassau and late afternoon return flights. Continental has regularly scheduled flights out of Newark, sometimes LaGuardia, to Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and Nassau. Jet Blue (www.jetblue.com) and Spirit Airlines (www.spiritair.com) also fly to Ft. Lauderdale.

CUSTOMS AND PASSPORT INFORMATION
If you are arriving or departing through Nassau, you must clear both Bahamian and American customs in Nassau. If embarking from Ft. Lauderdale or Miami, you must clear customs in North Eleuthera, and Florida on the return. It is best to travel to the Bahamas using a current passport.

There is a $15 (B$) departure tax for each tourist leaving the Bahamas.

ARRIVING ON HARBOUR ISLAND
Once you have arrived at the North Eleuthera airport take a short taxi ride to a water taxi which will take you across the bay to Harbour Island. Ask the water taxi to drop you at the Government dock. At the Government dock take a taxi to Sunnyside Cottage. Tell the driver to take you to the Evans’ house, Sunnyside, on the beach. SunnySide is located on the beach, one block past Upalong Road, off Queens Highway at the end of the street past Anthony Mather’s Garden.
